Volkswagen Tuner ABT Sportsline has been working on a project based on the new Touareg that has only just started to arrive at dealerships. ABT, which has been a respected tuning firm for 40 years, said that the engine programs are based around the diesel version but that it offers tweaks for other versions too. The Touareg is based on the same platform as the Porsche Cayenne but the tuner was confident that it can still boost its power further.
There are two stages for the engine program for the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6. Stage 1 is a software update that pushes power to hit the 282hp and torque to 428 pound-feet. At Stage 2, the vehicle gets a new turbocharger that brings the power up to 310hp and torque to 450 pound-feet.
These figures are based on the European Touareg's 3.0-liter TDI V-6, which is rated at 240hp and 405 pound-feet for the factory model. ABT also offers an aerodynamic kit that includes a front grill, rear spoiler and rear valence. The rear spoiler is probably functional but these two additions are being used mostly for their aesthetics. ABT also provides two different styles of wheels in sizes up to 22-inch diameter.
